Operating out of the Mountain Center in Tobyhanna, Feeding Families Ministry recently opened its doors to Pocono Update, allowing us to learn more about the pantry.
TOBYHANNA | On Thursday, Pocono Update had an opportunity to spend some time with the good people over at Feeding Families Ministry and learn more about what goes into keeping the pantry running.
President and founder of Feeding Families Ministry, Diane Tayburn, gave us a look at the operations of the pantry. Feeding Families offers outreach to Families every Thursday and Friday from 1 PM to 2 PM. Feeding 300 to 350 families per week, Dine estimates the pantry feeds roughly 5000 individuals per week. To accommodate this large crowd, the pantry consists of around 25 core volunteers, some of whom spend time on pick-ups while others unload deliveries and work to service the families who stop by the pantry. Recently, a grant that started as a donation from Larson window company to Feeding America, that was passed to Second Harvest, ended up in the hands of Feeding Families, which allowed the pantry was able to obtain an over $30,000 forklift that is said to condense 3 hours of work to 15 minutes. In addition, cascade forklifts also donated an electric pallet jack and a manual pallet jack, helping Feeding Families operate more efficiently. Watch Pocono Updates’ full interview with Diane HERE.
