Incredible Talent Gathers Once A Month For Open Mic

Once each month, poets, comedians, and the occasional magician gather to display their incredible talents to one another and the rest of the world. And fortunately for us, it’s right here in the Poconos.

EAST STROUDSBURG | On the second Monday of every month, Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center hosts Popcorn Poetry. Although, the show offers so much more than just those two things. From music to poetry to comedians to baked goods, and so much more, there truly is something for everybody to love. Organized by #nomorepoems and hosted by Brianna Booker and Carlton Farnbaugh, the show kicks off with an open mic where local artists of all types showcase their talent in 5-minute clips. Then the show continues with featured performers after a brief intermission. So, whether you’re hoping to show the world what you can do or draw your inspiration from others, this strange and incredible event provides the perfect atmosphere. WATCH VIDEO.

“We have had professional comedians,” said Farnbaugh. “My buddy’s a comic that travels all over the country. We’ve had a magician one month… We’ve had poets from all over the tri-state area… Everything is welcome, and it’s a bit of a zoo in all the best ways!”

According to Booker, there are no prizes. However, featured acts are compensated for their performances through gift baskets that the organizers purchase from local businesses.

“We order these little refillable popcorn buckets, and we fill them with different things from various local businesses from Main Street in Stroudsburg,” said Booker. “Like the Gamer’s Edge Comics and Games, Little Angels Cafe and Catering, Pocono Soap, Kitchen Chemistry, and Renegade Winery are all very generous.”

The September 12 event will feature poets Josh Dale and Randi Hogden, and stand-up comic Kyle Moucha. Up-and-coming entertainers who would like to perform a 5-minute set are encouraged to sign-up. Check out the Facebook event page for more details.

Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center is located at 88 S. Courtland St. in East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Open mic sign-ups begin at 6:30 pm. The show runs until about 9 pm. There is no fee to perform or attend.
