Monroe County Holds Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Are you holding on to potentially hazardous household items you are unsure how to dispose of? If so, this Wednesday’s household hazardous waste collection event may be able to help you out.

The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event to dispose of household hazardous waste for Monroe County residents. The event is Wednesday, June 15, and will run from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Military Road Recycling Site.

To attend the event, residents must fill out the registration form, choose an appointment time, and pay for the items they will be dropping off. Residents are only allowed to drop off items they have pre-paid for online. Items that have not been pre-paid for will not be accepted. No cash or other payment system will be available at the collection site. Businesses are not eligible.

For this event, only household items will be accepted, such as fire extinguishers, propane tanks, lithium batteries, poison bags, pool chemicals, fertilizer bags, insecticides containers, oil-based paint containers, bleach/ cleaning product containers, motor oil containers, anti-freeze containers, gas/ fuel/ other automotive product containers, and more. If you have any questions or if your item does not appear on the list, call their office at 570-643-6100 for more information.

If you are suddenly unable to make it to the event and did not cancel, you can call the office for a refund. This may take up to 30 days, and there is a $20 no-show fee that will be deducted from your refund.

This event is partially funded by grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to pay for the disposal cost of the items that will be processed as household hazardous waste.
