Diabetes Society Holds Fundraiser In Bushkill This Weekend

By Jared Acosta

Did you know that over thirty-seven million Americans suffer from diabetes? That’s more than 1 in every 10, and 1 in 5 people with diabetes aren’t even aware that they have it.

BUSHKILL, PA | On Sept. 9-11, 2022, Petrizzo’s Italian Restaurant is hosting Bushstock, a once-yearly fundraising drive to raise money for the Monroe County Diabetes Society. The event was started after a man enrolled his daughter in a summer camp geared at teaching children how to manage diabetes properly. Learning that there was no charge for the program and that it was funded entirely through donations, a group of friends gathered together to share their resources and talent so other children could have access to the same life-saving skills. With the public’s full support, the event quickly became a local happening that everyone looked forward to celebrating each year on the weekend following Labor Day. For the past thirteen years, the celebration has been organized by John Petrizzo, Chris London, Randy Heisler, Michael Kessler, and Bob and Lynn Scodony.

This year’s lineup includes live performances by Tommy Shaw and Kevin MacIntire as “The King” on Friday, Sept. 9.

Emmitt Derrick , The Rollin’ Sushi Band , AWGO, Hard To Say (with Cush Read and Thomas James McConachy), and John Stanley on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Bobby Ventura with Liquid Sunshine Acoustic, Sick Whiskey, Jim McCabe, Acoustic Blues Project, and The Calico Jacks on Sunday, Sept. 11.
