The Full Monty Musical At Shawnee Playhouse Highlights American Issues Of Today

The Fully Monty musical aims to bring awareness to self-consciousness, unemployment, homosexuality, the burden of the working class, and the strength of the community. In a play based on a 1997 British film, with messaging still relevant today.

The Full Monty is a musical with a book by Terrence McNally and score by David Yazbek. According to Visit Pa.com, this Americanized musical stage version is an adaptation of a 1997 British film sharing the same name, regarding six unemployed Buffalo steelworkers who are low on cash, opportunities, and luck. These six hardworking Americans had a lightbulb moment after witnessing their wives become enamored with the touring Chippendale act. The play explores positive messaging like working through your fear, self-consciousness, and anxieties. The gentlemen prepare for their show, and while doing this. They not only find strength in themselves but in each other.
