U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright represents Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District, which includes all of Wayne, Pike, and Lackawanna counties, along with portions of Luzerne and Monroe counties. Cartwright, who was first sworn into Congress on January 3, 2013, serves on the House Appropriations Committee and is the chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice, and Science. As Representative, Cartwright oversees more than $70 billion in annual federal spending on matters of economic development, law enforcement, and science and innovation. He is also the Vice Chair of the Financial Services & General Government Appropriations Subcommittee.

The congressman caught up with Mayor Probst at Café Duet in the courthouse square. Stroudsburg will again fall under district 8 starting in January 2023.

“He (Cartwright) practiced law in the Monroe County courthouse. He knew the businesses,” said Probst. “And now, just being able to be our congressman again is fantastic for the borough of Stroudsburg, so we’re excited to have him.”

“It’s been my goal to make sure that Northeastern Pennsylvania gets its fair share of tax money from the federal government, working back in our local economy,” said Cartwright. “This past year, I was number 10 in the entire U.S. congress of 435. I was number 1 in Pennsylvania and 10 in America for bringing our fair share of federal taxes back to Northeastern Pennsylvania.”

Cartwright ended the interview urging Pennsylvanians to vote and endorsing Tarah Probst for the 189th district. “Be sure to come out and vote in November. (Be)cause if you don’t vote, then somebody else is picking your representative for you. And make sure you vote for Tarah Probst. She’s gonna be terrific in Harrisburg. All of the successes, all of the victories, all of the advances that Stroudsburg has enjoyed, she’s gonna take that platform and work from a much bigger platform,” said Cartwright.

Incumbent Matt Cartwright will face Republican nominee Jim Bognet in the general election for U.S. House Pennsylvania District 8 on November 8, 2022.

Tarah Probst will face Republican nominee Stephen Ertle in the general election for Pennsylvania House of Representatives District 189 on November 8, 2022.
